As she lay in his arms while the sunlight
poured over them,
filling the room
with the clearest of light.
As they lay there entangled,
but knowing the wrong of it,
but feeling so deeply it had to be right.
As
they sat there talking,
surrounded by twilight,
he said oh so sadly that now he must go.
She said can't you stay for a
little while longer?
He said I have reasons for leaving you now.
As she sat in the chair and she re-read his letters,
her heart it was breaking as she
wrote the last kiss.
This cannot go on, it is hurting me deeply,
and for your sake and
mine we must end it like this.
Maybe,
just maybe,
they'll meet in the future when all
is resolved and the tangle unclosed.
And they'll sit there and smile while the sunlight pours over them,
as old friends can do well at peace.
