Taylor Swift's Speak Now album was released in 2010, and I think we all remember the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009 when Kanye West jumped on stage, took the microphone out of Taylor Swift's hand, and said, I'm gonna let you finish, but he wanted to declare that Beyonce's album should have won the award that Taylor won. Well, Taylor explains how this next song, Innocent, was inspired by that event and why she chose to perform it for the first time on the MTV Video Music Awards. The song Innocent is about something that really intensely affected me emotionally, and it took a while to write this one. I was fortunate enough to get the chance to perform the song on the VMAs, and that's the first time that anyone ever heard it. And putting out an album called Speak Now, where you're supposed to say what you feel when you know how you feel, I felt that performing that song on that particular award show was appropriate.
