This is Charlie Peacock, followed by Is the Brightness Still in Me, a new song from his
upcoming recording to be released in May of this year.
The biggest thing that's on my mind and has been, I think, probably for about the last
six months that's really occupying my thoughts is that I've been awakened to this idea of
the kingdom of God in a way that goes way past just those three words strung together
and that goes way past ideas that we have about the church.
The church is a smaller thing than the kingdom is, and that the kingdom is everything that
God has reign and dominion over, which is everything.
And so it's huge, and I keep using that particular word over and over again, huge, or the hugeness
of what belongs to God, and then I realize that the call is God's people in God's place
under God's rule.
And where is God's rule?
Well, it's everything, and so God's people are to be involved in everything there is
to be involved in and to be curious about everything.
And I think that just sort of opens up life into something that's grand and huge and not
small and private and religious.
Well, one of the ways that the whole kind of kingdom perspective shapes me is in parenting,
because even though I'm actively involved in contemporary Christian music and have been
for some time, I've got a son who's a young musician, and so I'm praying and asking the
Lord, you know, send him, Lord, wherever you would have him.
He doesn't have to duplicate his father's work, he doesn't have to be involved in contemporary
Christian music.
Maybe he's going to write background theme music for CNN, you know, maybe he's going
to be a pop star on MTV, I don't know.
But wherever in your dominion you would want to send him, I want to be ready to equip him
and pray towards that end.
And so you see, my thinking then has been opened up to something that's bigger, even
in relationship to parenting my children.
I know I'm not a young man, but neither am I old
Still I gotta wonder, is the brightness still in me?
Can I hold my own and sing a simple song?
I gotta wonder, is the brightness still in me?
As it was when I was young and first believed
The light of God within
Forever grace given
To every sinner broken
Who dares to call God's truth
Holy Spirit speak
When my light grows weak
Make me shine like Jesus
Fill me with His song
Still I gotta wonder, is the brightness still in me?
Can I hold my own and sing a simple song?
I gotta wonder, is the brightness still in me?
As it was when I was young and first believed
And I think I learned to love the freedom of the boundary
Where freedom in the spirit equals peace of mind
Still the lights will not close my eyes
And wrestle with the powers of hell
But there's just as many if not more good mornings
When I wake up laughing and remember all is well
I gotta wonder, is the brightness still in me?
Can I hold my own and sing a simple song?
I gotta wonder, is the brightness still in me?
Can I hold my own and sing a simple song?
Still I gotta wonder, is the brightness still in me?
Can I hold my own and sing a simple song?
I gotta wonder, is the brightness still in me?
