I'll sing you one of David's very favorite songs and it's his favorite because it's an
organizing song and while we're organizing on the outside, David apparently has been
organizing on the inside because they didn't have that rat in there more than three weeks
and that whole jail was turned on its head, which is kind of nice. Well, each night I
have to call back and see what's happened. The hunger strike was going very well and
they yesterday moved David to another jail and so either I'll call tomorrow or tonight
I'll find out that they've got one going in the new jail, but his whole theory is, which
is absolutely correct, that the jail is run by the prisoners. I mean, they do 99% of all
the work and when they stop, the jail stops and David has three years and whatever prisons
they keep dropping him into to do his work. You know, the revolution has to go on on the
inside as well as the outside.
Oh, you're ten years dead. I never died, said he. I never died, said he.
The copper bosses killed you, Joe. They shot you, Joe, says I. Takes more than guns to kill a man, says Joe.
I didn't die, says Joe. I didn't die. And standing there as big as life and smiling with his eyes,
says Joe, what they can never kill went on to organize, went on to organize.
From San Diego up to Maine, in every mine and mill, where working men defend their rights,
it's there you'll find Joe Hill. It's there you'll find Joe Hill. I dreamed I saw Joe Hill last night,
alive as you or me. Says I, but Joe, you're ten years dead. I never died, said he. I never died, said he.
