How about that? Prove you wrong. That is off of Sheryl Crow's new album, Threads, which we are talking to Sheryl about today. 17 songs that she's going to give us all the inside scoop and behind the scenes stories about. And this next one, man, we are about to get into some blues. Tell me about Livewire with you, Bonnie Raitt and Mavis Staples.
Livewire actually was inspired by the Staples singers. I mean, that kind of I'll take you there. It's very swampy. And Jeff Trott and I wrote that actually with Mavis in mind.
Like, what would we write if we were going to have Mavis Staples come in and sing on something? And I sent it to her and she just was like, girl, I'm gonna make a fool out of that song. And she did.
And we asked Bonnie Raitt to be on it really for the same reason. I mean, this is a woman who is steeped in the blues.
I went and saw her when I was like 17 years old in St. Louis, Missouri. I'd never seen a woman play slide guitar before. Really, I'd never seen a woman stand up there and just like the guitar was just an extension of her. I mean, you've seen that with men. For me, it was just a giant motivating factor of my picking up a guitar and learning to play it. And she's like the daughter of Mavis. I mean, they're very close. And so the three of us getting to do this together for me was like heaven.
That is so cool. Can you imagine you're watching somebody on stage when you're 17?
Just dreaming about being able to play guitar like they do. And then you're in the recording studio with them making this song. Here is Sheryl Crow with Bonnie Raitt and Mavis Staples live wire on Big Machine Radio.
